A Metropolis–Hastings routine for estimating parameters from compact binary inspiral events with laser interferometric gravitational radiation data

چکیده
Presented here are the results of a Metropolis–Hastings Markov chain Monte Carlo routine applied to the problem of determining parameters for coalescing binary systems observed with laser interferometric detectors. The Metropolis– Hastings routine is described in detail, and examples show that signals may be detected and analysed from within noisy data. Using the Bayesian framework of statistical inference, posterior distributions for the parameters of the binary system are derived using our routine. PACS number: 04.80.Nn

Coherent Bayesian inference on compact binary inspirals using a network of interferometric gravitational wave detectors
Presented in this paper is the description of a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) routine for conducting coherent parameter estimation for interferometric gravitational wave observations of an inspiral of binary compact objects using multiple detectors. Data from several interferometers are processed, and all nine parameters (ignoring spin) associated with the binary system are inferred, includin...
متن کاملBayesian inference on compact binary inspiral gravitational radiation signals in interferometric data
Presented is a description of a Bayesian analysis framework for use with interferometric gravitational radiation data in searches for binary neutron star inspiral signals. Five parameters are investigated, and the information extracted from the data is illustrated and quantified. The posterior integration is carried out using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. Implementation details inclu...
متن کاملSpin effects in the inspiral of coalescing compact binaries.
We derive the contributions of spin-orbit and spin-spin coupling to the gravitational radiation from coalescing binary systems of spinning compact objects. We calculate spin effects in the symmetric, trace-free radiative multipoles that determine the gravitational waveform, and the rate of energy loss. Assuming a balance between energy radiated and orbital energy lost, we determine the spin eff...
متن کاملMapping inspiral rates on population synthesis parameters
Formation rates of compact-object binaries are often derived from population synthesis calculations. However, such calculations depend sensitively on a relatively large number of model input parameters. Given considerable uncertainty in those model parameters, the predicted inspiral rates for double compact objects relevant to gravitational-wave interferometric detectors have been shown to be a...
متن کاملSearching for Gravitational Radiation from Binary Black Hole Machos in the Galactic Halo
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) is one of a new generation of detectors of gravitational radiation. The existence of gravitational radiation was first predicted by Einstein in 1916, however gravity waves have not yet been directly observed. One source of gravitation radiation is binary inspiral. Two compact bodies orbiting each other, such as a pair of black holes...
